Gretna……….Zelphia Hiatt Carter, age 94 of Gretna died Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Gretna Health and Rehab Center.

Born April 23, 1927 in Raleigh County, WV, she was a daughter of the late Nathan C. Hiatt and Beulah Quesenberry Hiatt. She was predeceased by her husband, Willie Madison Carter; one son, Paul Carter; five brothers, Jeff Hiatt, Aubrey Hiatt, Lindy Hiatt, Carl Hiatt, and Scottie Hiatt; and four sisters, Bessie Moles, Gladys Spurlin, Mary Manning, and Betty Stanley. Mrs. Carter was a member at Midway Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir for many years.  She loved her flower garden, taking care of her chickens and was a big Dale Earnhardt, Jr. fan.

She is survived by four sons, Garland "Butch" Hiatt and wife, Betty of Gretna, Dean "Buster" Anderson and wife, Debra of Gretna, Gary Carter of Blairs, and Billy Carter and wife, Cindi of Gretna; one brother, Rev. Elmo Hiatt of Mt. Airy, NC; 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at Midway Baptist Church by Rev. Lynn Marstin and Rev. Elmo Hiatt.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at Midway Baptist Church and from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday October 12, 2021 at the residence.
