William Randol Smith, Sr.

Gretna……….William Randol Smith, Sr., age 88 of Gretna died Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born April 18, 1926 in Toshes, VA he was a son of the late Russell Smith and Annie Lillian Nuchols Smith. He was predeceased by six brothers and one sister. Mr. Smith was a member and Deacon at Round Pond Baptist Church. He was an Army Veteran of World War II. He retired from Sealtest Milk and was a bee keeper. He enjoyed hunting and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Pauline Myers Smith of the residence; one son, William Randol Smith, Jr. of Cincinnati, OH; three daughters, Charlotte Headley and her husband, Mike of Valrico, FL, Gail Groff and her husband, Craig of Manassas and Sherry Smith of Clarksville, MD; two step-sons, Ray Myers and his wife, Reneé of Gretna and Carrol Myers and his wife, Angie of Gretna; grandchildren, Bryan Battenfeld, Steven Battenfeld, Kristen Headley-Black, Phillip Groff, Stacy Groff, Randi Lynn Smith, Tara Hasselbeck, Christopher Smith, Adam Smith, Rachel Banilower, Benjamin Banilower, James Banilower, Kim Dickie, Jennifer Mann, Kaylyn Myers, Kelsie Myers and Beth Myers; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2015 at Round Pond Baptist Church by Ricky Hogan and Rev. Lynn Marstin. Burial with Military Honors by the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard will follow in Gretna Burial Park
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
