Hurt……….William Lester Midkiff, Sr., age 88 of 6348 Blue Ridge Drive, Hurt died Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Gretna Health and Rehab Center.
Born September 25, 1925 in Pittsylvania County he was a son of the late James W. Midkiff, Sr. and Hester Robertson Midkiff. He was predeceased by a son, Bill Midkiff; brothers, Jessie Midkiff, Charlie Midkiff, Haywood Midkiff, Howard Midkiff, and James Midkiff; and sisters, Pansy Joyce, Essie Shelton, Alma Hall, and Fannie Gibson. Mr. Midkiff was a member of Weatherford Primitive Baptist Church and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a retired Division Superintendent with Peoples Mutual Telephone Company. Mr. Midkiff was a good husband, father, grandfather; and enjoyed fishing, gardening, puzzles, and raising hay and cattle.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Moorefield Midkiff of the residence; one daughter, Janet Hall of Hurt; two grandchildren, Josh Midkiff and his wife, Jennine, and Julie Hall; and numerous nieces and nephews
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Weatherford Primitive Baptist Church by Elder Raymond Goad and Elder Marvin Brumfield. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Monday, June 16, 2014 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
