Hurt………William Edward "Ed" Keesee, age 86 of Hurt died Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at his residence.

Born October 24, 1934 in Pittsylvania County, he was the oldest son and third of eight children to the late William Keesee and Lola Mae Farmer Keesee. He was predeceased by three sisters, Amelia Lumpkins, Mary Jane Keesee Fox and Ella Mae Simerly. Mr. Keesee was a member and former deacon of New Prospect Baptist Church. He was employed by the Lane Company until he decided to be his own boss by running his own business, Keesee's Grocery. He owned and operated Keesee's Grocery until his retirement in 1995. Upon retirement Ed remained busy by working three jobs; custodian at New Prospect, bus driver for the YMCA of Altavista and operating his own mowing business.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Jane Rowland Keesee of the residence; four children, Kathy Shelton and husband, Derek of Hurt, Stephen Keesee and wife, Alisa of Myrtle Beach, SC, Terry Keesee of Altavista and Lori Wilkerson and husband, Robert of Thomasville, NC; one brother, Larry Keesee and Mary of Hurt; three sisters, Joyce Owens of MD, Jennie Creasy and husband, Paul of Hurt and Carol Faye Blount of Durham, NC; five grandchildren, Daniel Saunders (April), Heath Saunders (Jamie Corker), Jonathan Keesee, Jeremy Keesee (Krizzia), and Stephanie Wilkerson; and six great-grandchildren, Kaylyn, Dillon, Darren, Noah, Jonah and Olivia.

Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Thursday, September 9, 2021 at New Prospect Baptist Church by Rev. Brady Willis and Rev. James Lee Manuel. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence.
