Franklin……….William "Bill" Henry Turnbull, age 71 of Franklin died July 30, 2013 in Richmond.
Bill was born on January 22, 1942, to Billy Turnbull and Alice Rigney Turnbull in Pittsylvania County. Bill was predeceased by his wife, Pat, and his father, Billy. He was raised in the Gretna area, as well as Pennsylvania, Nebraska, and other parts of Virginia. He graduated from Gretna High School, having lettered in football, basketball, baseball, and track. He went on to serve in, and be Honorably Discharged from, the United States Air Force. He attended the University of South Carolina, earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, and met the love of his life, Patricia Louise Smart. He and his wife Pat raised two children and lived in the Richmond area and in Hanover County. Bill had a very successful career in banking and finance. He greatly enjoyed watching sports, reading, traveling, listening to Doc Watson and Delbert McClinton, and drinking bad beer and good whiskey.
In addition to his mother Alice Rigney Turnbull he is survived by a daughter, Elicia and her husband Jay of Murfreesboro, N.C., and son, Matt Turnbull and his wife, Sallie of Central, S.C. He is also survived by three grandchildren, John, Claire, and Will, also of Murfreesboro.
A Memorial service with Military Honors by the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Lynn Marstin.
