Hurt………William Richard "Dickie" Short, Sr., age 87 of Hurt, died Monday, December 27, 2021 at Bedford Memorial Hospital.

Born April 14, 1934 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Anderson Parker Short and Florence Brizentine Short.  He was predeceased by his wife, Doris Elliott Short; two sons, Ralph Lee Short, and William Richard Short, Jr.; and 5 brothers and 5 sisters.  He was an U.S. Army Veteran and worked for many years at Robertson's Sawmill.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by three sons, Robert Short of Hurt, Ray Short of Hurt and Randy Short of Hurt; two grandchildren, Richard Short III and wife, Molly of Chatham and Angela Renee Yeatts of Chatham; six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Altavista Memorial Park by Rev. Bobby Brumfield.  Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 & Gretna Post 232.
