Altavista…..William Fred DeVercelly, age 78 of Altavista died Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Virginia Baptist Hospital.
Born December 3, 1934 in Rockaway Beach, NY he was a son of the late Charles Harold DeVercelly and Marie DeVercelly. He was a member of St. Victoria Catholic Church, and a retired truck driver. Mr. DeVercelly was an Army Veteran; and a member of VFW and American Legion Post 36. He enjoyed racing cars, boating, and following NASCAR.
He is survived by his wife, Claudette DeVercelly of the residence; two sons, David DeVercelly and his wife, Rhonda of Lynch Station, and Steven DeVercelly and his wife, Linda of Charlotte, NC; and three grandchildren, Ashley DeVercelly, Andrew DeVercelly, and Michael DeVercelly.
A Memorial Mass will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2013 at St. Victoria Catholic Church by Father Jim Gallagher. A reception will follow the service in the church hall. The family is accepting guests at the family home.
