Forest…….Virginia Owen Bowling, age 85, of Forest died Monday, March 6, 2023 at her residence.

Born May 2, 1937 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Ollie Thomas Owen and Dorothy Dove Owen. She was predeceased by an infant daughter.  Mrs. Bowling was married to her husband Melvin on December 26, 1958.  She graduated from The Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Danville in 1958 and worked as a nurse in hospital and office settings for many years. She was a member of Greenfield Baptist Church, where from a young age she enjoyed playing piano.  She also played the organ at Greenfield Baptist Church and Trinity Episcopal Church for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin Winston Bowling of the residence; two daughters, Lori Jones and husband, Darrell, of Collinsville and Lana Dove of Forest; a sister-in-law, Brenda Utley and husband, Donald, of Lynchburg; and two grandchildren, Alyssa Reeves and husband, Chris, of Axton and Andrew Jones of New Jersey.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Greenfield Baptist Church by Rev. R.G. Rowland and Rev. Matt Rhodes. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.
