Gretna…….Viola Jacobs Rowland, age 90 of Gretna died Friday, November 11, 2011, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 10, 1921 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late, Cleveland Jacobs and Mary Shields Jacobs. Mrs. Rowland was predeceased by her husband, Cyril Jacob Rowland; one brother, John D. Jacobs; and two sisters, Florence Mays and Gladys Patterson. She was a member of Piney Fork Baptist Church and was a home maker. Mrs. Rowland enjoyed quilting, gardening, flowers, and cooking for her family.
She is survived by three sons, Leon Rowland and wife, Shirley of Chatham, Carlton Rowland and wife, Linda of Danville, and Harold (Fuzzy) Rowland and wife, Brenda of Gretna; two daughters, Janet Bailey and husband, Charles of Chatham, and Terecia Hamlett and fiancé, Herman Andrews of Hurt; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchilren..
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 14, 2011 at the Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. David Turbyfill. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 14, 2011 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of her son and daughter-in-law, Harold (Fuzzy) and Brenda Rowland, 621 Brushy Mountain Road, Gretna.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Piney Fork Baptist Church, 2501 Piney Road, Gretna, 24557.
