Gretna……..Verna Adkins Walden Cottrell, age 92 of Gretna died Thursday, June 9, 2022 at her residence.

Born April 18, 1930 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Ocie Adkins and Florence Parker Adkins.  She was predeceased by her first husband, Elmer Roy Walden; her second husband, Eddie Nelson Cottrell; two sons, Jeff Walden, and Wayne Walden; and one sister, Bernelle Moon.  Mrs. Cottrell was of the Baptist Faith and she was a home maker.  She enjoyed dancing, music, crossword puzzles, watching game shows, and most of all spending time with her family.

She is survived by three daughters, Diane Earles of Axton, Pat Keatts and husband, Garith of Gretna, and Becky Dalton and husband, Larry of Chatham; two sons, Roy Walden, and Billy Walden and Linda of Vernon Hill; one brother, Burnice "Bug" Adkins and wife, Vivian of Appomattox; 11 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2022 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Jason Andrews and Rev. R.G. Rowland.  Burial will follow in the Adkins Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2022 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
