Hurt…..Verlie Haynes Simpson, age 96 of 8272 Blue Ridge Drive, Hurt died Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Autumn Care Nursing and Rehab Center.
Born February 24, 1917 in Pittsylvania County she was a daughter of late Monroe English Haynes and Mary Pink Hutcherson Haynes. She was predeceased by her husband, Raleigh Martin Simpson; one son, Glenn Martin Simpson; three brothers, Eugene Haynes, Harold Haynes, and Maurice Haynes; and two sisters, Irene Saunders, and Hilma Mayhew. Mrs. Simpson was a devoted member of New Prospect Baptist Church and was a home maker. She enjoyed quilting.
She is survived by one son, Carl W. Simpson and his wife, Marilynne of Hurt; one daughter, Dinah Simpson Banton of Concord, NC; four sisters, Hessie Midkiff of Winston Salem, NC, Doris Trevy of Lynchburg, Gladys Ore of Lynchburg, and Shirley McDaniel of Hurt; four grandchildren, Angie Garner, Tanya Correal, Craig Banton, and Cameron Banton; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 15, 2013 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Brady Willis. Burial will follow in the Simpson Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 15, 2013 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
