Gretna…..Vera Soyars Bailess, age 88 of Gretna died Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born December 9, 1924 in Pittsylvania County she was a daughter of the late Leonard Soyars and Minnie Fitzgerald Soyars. She was predeceased by her husband, John Huston Bailess; two brothers, Lloyd Soyars and Harry Soyars; a son-in-law, Irvin Faris; and a special friend, Frances Rowland. Mrs. Bailess was a member of Spring Road Baptist Church and was a home maker. She enjoyed reading, quilting, crocheting, puzzles, and visiting with friends and family.
She is survived by three sons, Carroll Bailess and his wife, Loretta of Hurt, Ronnie Bailess and his wife, Elizabeth of Gretna, and Wayne Bailess and friend, Tammy Owen of Gretna; one daughter, Linda B. Faris of Hurt; nine grandchildren, Stephen (Nicole) Sloan, Michael (Shannon) Bailess, Kevin (Kelly) Bailess, Greg (Debbie) Faris, Johnathan (Lauren) Bailess, Jeff (Shelley) Bailess, Chris (Holly) Bailess, Kim Bailess, and Kelly Bailess; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 11, 2013 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Brian Faison and Ronnie Simpson. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of her daughter, Linda Faris, 5652 Blue Ridge Drive, Hurt.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Spring Road Baptist Church Building Fund, 1449 Izaak Walton Road, Hurt, VA 24563.
