Gretna……….Velma Roach McGregor, age 90 of Gretna died Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Gretna Health and Rehab Center.
Born February 2, 1923 in Pittsylvania County she was a daughter of the late Norman Lee Roach and Ellie Virginia Edwards Roach. She was predeceased by her husband, Edgar David McGregor; a son, David Ray McGregor; four brothers, Sammy Roach, Charlie Roach, J.W. Roach, and John Roach; and six sisters, Alice McGregor, Rebecca Davis, Geneva Burnette, Willie Hutcherson, Ruth Weatherford, and Mary Barbour. Mrs. McGregor was a member of the First Baptist Church of Riceville where she sang in the choir and was a Sunday school teacher for both youth and adults. She was a home maker; and enjoyed flowers and gardening. Mrs. McGregor also enjoyed cooking and sharing food with others.
She is survived by two sisters, Sue Hankins of Gretna, and Lizzie Dalton of Newport-News; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Riceville by Rev. Dave Cochran and Rev. Shelton Miles. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, July 12, 2013 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of her great-niece, Regina and Audie Meadows, 2980 Mountain Road, Gretna.
