Gretna…….Tommy Wayne Betterton, age 70 of Gretna passed away Thursday, February 26, 2026 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born January 3, 1956 in Halifax County, he was a son of the late James Baker Betterton and Eva Jones Betterton.  He was predeceased by a brother, James "Jimmy" Betterton; and an infant granddaughter, Anna Elizabeth Barker. Mr. Betterton was a member of Mulberry Baptist Church and worked as a Ford Technician and shop Foreman at many Ford dealerships in our area over his 40 years of service. He loved watching NASCAR and spending time with his family.  He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Laverne Bailess Betterton of the residence; one son, Travis Wayne Betterton (Samantha) of Gretna; one daughter, Kelly Barker (Phillip) of Hurt; one brother, Timmy Betterton of Gretna; and four grandchildren, Devin Barker, Mason Barker, Lucas Barker and Trent Wayne Betterton.

Funeral services will be conducted 4:00 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2026 at Mulberry Baptist Church by Rev. Randy Foster. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2026 at Mulberry Baptist Church.
