Chatham........George Thomas "Tom" Mayhew, age 82 of Chatham died Saturday, May 8, 2021 at his residence.

Born June 12, 1938 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Charlie Leonard Mayhew and Nannie Beatrice Doss Mayhew.  He was predeceased by his wife, Velma Jean Osborne Mayhew; and one brother, Sherman Mayhew.  Tom was a member of Summersett Baptist Church and an Army Veteran.  He was a former employee of the Central Motor Company and Blair's Self Service Grocery.  He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.

He is survived by his special girlfriend, Faye Osborne of the residence; one daughter, Rhonda M. Francis & husband, Steve of Gretna; one sister, Bitha M. Yeatts and husband, Jesse of Gretna; and three nieces, Phyllis Y. Mayhew and husband, Coleman of Gretna, April Y. Giles and husband, Daniel of Gretna, and Sharon Yeatts of Gretna.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Jason Andrews and Greg Hedrick.  Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will follow in the Wagner Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2021 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of his girlfriend, Faye Osborne and also at the residence of his sister and brother-in-law, Bitha and Jesse Yeatts.
