Hurt…..Tippy Celestine Simpson Mayhew, age 88 of 113 West Spencer Road, Hurt died Friday, August 16, 2013 at her residence.
Born July 5, 1925 in Pittsylvania County she was a daughter of the late Silas Gilmore Simpson and Celestine Hines Simpson. Mrs. Mayhew was predeceased by her husband, William (W.C.) Coleman Mayhew, Jr.; five brothers, Jake Simpson, Ferrell Simpson, Gordon Simpson, Raymond Simpson, and Vance Simpson; and four sisters, Eva Shelton, Edna Robertson, Mary Lee Robertson, and Pearl Shelton. She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church for over 57 years, where she was a member of the of WMU, President of the Margaret Gordon Sunday school class and was Chairperson of the Shut-in Ministry. Mrs. Mayhew was a retired teacher's aide with the Pittsylvania County School System.
She is survived by one son, Richard Mayhew and his wife, Kathy of Snellville, GA; three daughters, Dawn Basini and her husband, Buzz of Livingston, MT, Susan Eanes and her husband, Paul of Snellville, GA, and Pam Cowart and her husband, Dennis of Rustburg; 9 grandchildren, Anna MacLachlan, Brad Mayhew, Jennifer Walton, Ashley King, Emily Holle, Laura McLemore, Sarah Eanes, Michael Cowart and Courtney Phillips; and 11 great-grandchildren, Brittany Mayhew, Coleman Mayhew, Ryan Walton, Brady Walton, Taylor King, Nathan King, Libby Holle, Brittain Holle, Molly McLemore, Kinley Phillips and Cambre Phillips.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 P.M. Sunday, August 18, 2013 at New Prospect Baptist Church by Rev. Brady Willis. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
