Thomas "Tom" Scott Copes, age 83, of Evington, passed from this life on October 5th, 2023 at his residence.

Born July 19, 1940, in Salisbury, MD, Tom was the son of the late Marion Saunders Copes and Lelia Glass Copes. He was predeceased by one brother, Leonard Carroll Copes.

He is survived by his wife, Naomi Nunn Copes of the residence; two daughters, Wendy Proco of Evington, and Tobie Owen and husband, Jeff of Evington; two brothers, Marion Copes, Jr. and wife, Barbara of Evington, and Jesse Copes and wife, Pat of Gladys; five grandchildren, Scott Proco and wife Hallie, Paul Proco and wife Sarah, Emily Knight and husband, Avery, Thomas Owen and wife, Janette, and Nicholas Owen; and seven great-grandchildren, Logan, Olivia, Aubrey, Whitney, Isaiah, Millie and Juniper.

Tom was a U.S. Army veteran and served on the Lynchburg Police Department. He graduated from Lynchburg College (now University of Lynchburg) with a Bachelor's Degree. He worked at Forehand, Inc. as Vice President of Property Management until he retired.

Tom loved the great outdoors. He spent many hours in the woods and on the water. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Naomi ("Omi") of 63 years. Together, and with their lab, Arley, they traveled across the United States in their camper, making new friends along the way.  While Tom enjoyed traveling, he found great joy spending time on his own land, whether it was taking long walks with Omi, or hunting for deer or turkey with his beagles in the very early morning hours. He felt a spiritual closeness to God while in his woods. Tom also enjoyed gardening and growing his vegetables, especially his Cherokee Purple tomatoes and sharing them with friends and family.

Tom is sorely missed by his wife, Omi, and his two daughters, Wendy and Tobie. As was his wish, he will be cremated.

There will be a Celebration of the Life of Thomas Scott Copes at Salem United Methodist Church, 2891 Masons Mill Road, in Evington on Saturday October 14th at 2pm by Celebrant, Martha Crawley. Following the service, friends and family are invited to enjoy light refreshments in the church fellowship hall. The family will receive friends other times at the residence.
