Thomas R. Atkinson

Hurt......Thomas R. Atkinson, age 77 of Hurt passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at Bedford County Nursing Home after a long illiness.
Born January 19, 1933 in Bedford County, he was a son of the late Thomas B. Atkinson and Eula Gibbs Atkinson. He was an US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a building official for Pittsylvania County. In his earlier years he was employed by Ogden Electric Co. of Altavista.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Atkinson of Hurt; one son, Tommy Atkinson of Hurt; one daughter, Julie Sowers and husband, Steve of Altavista; three sisters of Bedford, Juanita McClure, Anita Creasy and Anna Poindexter; two brothers-in-law, Rogers Taylor and wife Mildred of Bedford, and Harry Taylor and wife, Marie of Lebanon, TN; three sisters-in-law, Jean Taylor of Lebanon, TN, Pearlie Bolling of Lynch Station, Kathy Sneed and husband Harold of Hartsville, TN; many nieces and nephews; and leaving behind a dear friend, of many years, Victor Crews to recall memories.
Graveside services with military honors by the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 1, 2010 at Altavista Memorial Park by Rev. Chris Brooks.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.
