Hurt……Thelbert "Buddy" Edward King, age 80 of Hurt died Monday, October 3, 2016 at his residence.
Born September 8, 1936 in Pittsylvania County he was a son of the late William W. King and Mattie White King. Mr. King was predeceased by four brothers, James King, Odell King, Wilbur King and Benford King; and two sisters, Lena King and Mamie Eades. He was a painter; and enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing the crane machine game, cookouts, visiting the outer banks and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Mattox King of the residence; two sons, Ronnie King and wife, Linda of Hurt and Dennis King and wife, Brenda of Hurt; four daughters, Sheila Payne and husband, Roy of Hurt, Loretta Arthur and friend, J.W. of Hurt, Cynthia Sherwood and husband, Eddie of Hurt and Shirley Ann Varnadore and husband, Bill of Hurt; one brother, Kenneth Swanson King of Gretna; two sisters, Louise Emerson of Altavista and Bernice Moses of Lynchburg; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2016 at St. John's Pentecostal Holiness Church by Pastor Tim Lane. Burial will follow in the King Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
