Swanson Thornton "Whitey" Chism of Dade City, Florida departed  for his heavenly  home  on June 22, 2025 to be with his beloved wife Amy Parish whom he married May 5, 2010.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by sisters Janette C. Madison and Elizabeth Chism Pruitt and his parents Herman Sr. and Tinnie Chism

Mr. Chism was born on January 23, 1948, in Pittsylvania County, VA. Swanson was of Christian Faith. Prior to his retirement he worked in construction; after retiring he had a small engine repair shop at his home to keep busy.  Swanson was a U.S. Army Veteran and served in Vietnam.  He was loved by all those who knew him; he never met a stranger.

Left to treasure his memory are his siblings, Herman Chism, Jr. (Ann), Carroll Linwood Chism, Clovis Chism Shelton, Christine Chism White (Kenneth) and Ruby Chism Matherly. His children Anita Chism Dalton (John), Ronald Chism and fiancée Rhonda McGuire, Casey Chism (Ivette), Sandra Chism Oakes (Travis) and Megan Parish. Grandchildren, Katherine Cassidy, Ethan Dalton, Hannah Dalton, Kaylee Chism, Hannah McGuire, Carley McCullock, Layne Chism, Aiden Chism, Jayden Oakes, and Avery Oakes. Five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express sincere love and appreciation to Edgardo "Poncho" Colon for caring for Swanson through his illness, he thought of Poncho as family and Megan for caring for him and keeping up with all his necessary
appointments, he loved her as his own daughter.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Blairs Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Harold Oakes.
