Swanson C. Barley

Gretna……….Swanson C. Barley, age 83 of 3249 Blue Ridge Drive, Gretna died Monday, June 25, 2012 at his residence.
Born January 23, 1929 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late, Jack Jasper Barley and Fannie Lovelace Barley. Swanson was predeceased by a son, Calvin Lee Barley, a sister, Louise Cox, and three brothers, W.T. Barley, Henry Jasper Barley and Billy Barley. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church and was a retired employee of the Lane Company. Mr. Barley enjoyed gardening, conversations, and visits with friends.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Shumate Barley of the residence; two sons, Tom Barley and wife, Carolyn of Evington; and Charlie E. Barley of Gretna; two grandchildren, Chris Barley and Josh Barley.
Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Gretna Burial Park by the Rev. Dr. Lynn Marstin, Rev. Billy Robertson and Aaron Johnson.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
