Altavista………Susan "Sue" Iretta Arnold Irby, age 73 of Altavista died Friday, September 29, 2023 at Autumn Care Nursing and Rehab of Altavista.

Born April 8, 1950 in Campbell County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Dan Arnold and Jessie James Robertson Arnold.  She was predeceased by two infant children; five brothers, George Arnold, Frankie Arnold, Jerry Arnold, Dan Arnold, and Jackie Arnold; and two sisters, Eva Waters, and Ruby Layne.  Mrs. Irby was a homemaker; and she loved dancing, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by one son, Wayne Irby and wife, Tammie of Montana; one daughter, Carol Irby Hodges and husband, Edward of Hurt; one sister, Shirley Layne and husband, Gary of Lynchburg; three grandchildren, T.W. Hodges and wife Hayley, Kristen Hodges and fiancé, Lorne Kelley, and Jessica Irby; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Summersett Baptist Church by Rev. Jason Andrews.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Hurt Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 727, Hurt, VA 24563.
