Hurt……….James Steven "Steve" Bennett, age 70 of Hurt died Sunday, January 7, 2018 at his residence.
Born July 22, 1947 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Jimmie Lionel Bennett and Elizabeth Maude Bailess Bennett. He was predeceased by two brothers, Jimmie Huston Bennett and Clyde Morgan Bennett. Mr. Bennett was and Army Veteran of Vietnam. He was a former teacher with the Pittsylvania County School System; and worked as a carpenter for Thomas E. Scott Inc. and Doug Morcom Builders. Mr. Bennett enjoyed golf and at one time was the golf pro at Altavista Country Club.
He is survived by one brother, Phillip Marshall Bennett and wife, Kathleen of Hurt; one sister, Peggy Bennett Farmer of Madison Heights; four nieces, Mary Marshman, Rachel Stone, Lisa Bennett and Wanda Farmer; and one nephew, Tony Farmer.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 12, 2018 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Ronnie Simpson. Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will follow in Altavista Memorial Park.
