Hickory, NC………Stephen Gary Simpson, age 73 of Hickory, NC died Monday, November 4, 2024.

Born November 7, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri, he was a son of Ruth Elizabeth Van DeVyvere Simpson of Gretna and the late Carroll Simpson.  He was predeceased by two brothers, Mark Simpson and Kenny Simpson.  Mr. Simpson was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in Vietnam. He was a member of the 7th Army Parachute Team in Germany.  Mr. Simpson was a contractor  who could fix anything.  He was loyal to his dogs, Sunshine, Leo and Frannie; and loved fishing, and spending time at his man cave and beach house.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Nancy Kuhar Simpson of the residence; two daughters, Jennifer Simpson Murphy and husband, Sean of Burbank, CA and Megan Simpson Cobin and husband, Phil of Asheville, NC; two sisters, Carolyn Baker and husband, Clark of Nashville, TN and Dianna Lavoie and husband, Allan of Gretna; two brothers, Jeff Simpson and wife, Dale of Gretna and Deacon Chris Simpson and wife, Sue Ellen of Tennessee; five grandchildren, Declan Murphy, Elliot Murphy, Rhys Murphy, Carlyle Cobin and Lucas Cobin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 11, 2024 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Father Jim Gallagher and Deacon Chris Simpson.  Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 with taps played by Declan Murphy will follow in Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 11, 2024 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society of Catawba County, P.O. Box 2472, Hickory, NC 28603.
