Stephen Wayne Byrd

Chatham......Stephen Wayne Byrd, M. Div., D. Th., Senior Pastor, age 57 of Chatham died Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born March 9, 1953 in Waynesboro, he was a son of Irene Taylor Byrd and the late Rev. Eugene Byrd. Rev. Dr. Byrd was a member of Crossroads Ministries, Altavista Church of God of Prophecy. He earned the degree of Doctor of Theology from Christian Life School of Theology. Outside of his family and friends Mr. Byrd loved golfing with his friends and playing the guitar. He also enjoyed serving children through the Pittsylvania County Schools nutrition system.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife, Carol Crowder Byrd of Chatham; a son, Jamieson Todd Byrd and Gwen Estep of Dryfork; a daughter, Lori Elizabeth Byrd Scolpini and fiancé, David Hale of Chatham; a brother Larry Byrd and wife Nancy; a sister Donna Rambo and husband, George; three grandchildren, Baylee Farren Byrd-Roberts, Hayden Paul Scolpini, and Elijah Jamieson Byrd; special family members, Rev. and Mrs. H. Clyde Crowder, Jason and Hope Merricks and family, Barry and Joan Merricks and Justin, Mike Reynolds, Preston Roberts, and Ryan Scolpini; and special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Crossroads Ministries, Altavista Church of God of Prophecy, by Rev. Gary L. Vernon, and Wayne Murphy, Minister. Burial will follow in Java Church of God of Prophecy Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 P.M. to 1:45 P.M. Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Crossroad Ministries, Altavista Church of God of Prophecy, and other times will be at the Crossroads Ministries, Altavista Church of God of Prophecy, Church Parsonage, 2080 Shady Lane, Altavista.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Family Life Center Fund, 915 Ninth Street, Altavista, VA 24517.
