Gretna……….Stella Vaughan Pierson, age 77 of Gretna died Thursday, June 16, 2016 at her residence.
Born January 12, 1939 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Howard Franklin Vaughan and Edna Dowdy Vaughan. She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick "Freddie" Foster Pierson and two sisters, Martha Cardwell and Connie Farmer. Mrs. Pierson was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and served on the finance and music committees. She was a secretary at Gretna Elementary School for over 30 years. She enjoyed flowers, gardening and reading.
She is survived by one son, Rodney Pierson and wife, Elizabeth of Troutville; one daughter, Lari Scruggs and husband, Keith of Gretna; one brother David Vaughan and wife, Bertha of Hurt; two sisters, Anita Shively of Florence, SC and Iva Lee Compton and husband, Phillip of Virginia Beach; and two grandchildren, Justin Pierson and Brandon Pierson.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Piney Grove Baptist Church by Pastor Matthew Speck and Morgan Allen. Burial will follow in Altavista Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2016 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
