Hurt…….Walter Stanley Simpson, age 79 of Hurt died Sunday, November 26, 2023 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born May 16, 1944 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Glady Lee Simpson, and Bessie Faris Simpson.  He retired from Klopman Mills, and was a U.S. National Guard Veteran. He was a member of Altavista Church of Christ where he served as Elder, Deacon, and Sunday School Teacher.  Mr. Simpson was a member of Gretna Jaycees, and a lifetime member recipient of Virginia Jaycees.  He was a former coach, and president of Gretna Dixie Youth Sports.  Mr. Simpson enjoyed playing hearts, helping his dad build houses, woodworking, golfing, and fishing at the beach.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Wells Simpson of the residence; one son, Grant Simpson and fiancée, Courtney Hudson of Hurt; one daughter, Kelly Osborne and husband, Scott of Hurt; one brother, Nelson Simpson and wife, Kathy of Hurt; one sister, Janice Brown and husband, Jimmy of Hurt; and two grandsons, Dylan Osborne, and Brian Osborne and fiancée, Morgan Owen.

Memorial services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Altavista Church of Christ by Larry Evans, Minister.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Altavista Church of Christ, and other times will be at the residence of his daughter, and son-in-law, Kelly, and Scott Osborne.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to any local fire department, or to Altavista Church of Christ, 1301 Avondale Drive, Altavista, VA 24517.
