Chatham………Spencer Clay Emerson, Sr., age 82 of Chatham died Friday, April 28, 2017 at Gretna Health and Rehab Center.
Born December 31, 1934 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Henry Clay Emerson and Georgie A. Tuck Emerson. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Brandy Lokey and two brothers, Rugie Emerson and Eddie Lee Emerson. Mr. Emerson was a member at Greenfield Baptist Church and was a farmer. He enjoyed working and riding horses; and farming.
He is survived by one son, Spencer "Buzzy" Emerson, Jr. and wife, Sheila of Chatham; three daughters, Susan Gregory of Gretna, Tammy Wright and Linwood Davis of Gretna and Shelby Emerson of Roanoke; one brother, James Emerson of Danville; four sisters, Mary Poindexter of Randleman, NC, Elsie Bennett of Gretna, Willis Jennings of Danville and Julie Hedrick of Danville; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at the Emerson Family Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2017 by Rev. R.G. Rowland.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence of his son and daughter-in-law, Spencer and Shelia Emerson, 281 Tomahawk Mill Road, Chatham, VA 24531.
