Maynard Lee "Sonny" Pruitt, Jr., age 59 of Hurt, VA went home to our Lord on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at UVA Health-University Hospital at 9:33 p.m.

Born August 12, 1966 in Danville, VA, he was the son of Betty Dalton Bravo of Gretna and the late Maynard Lee Pruitt, Sr.  He was predeceased by one brother, Mark Lynn Pruitt; one great-nephew Owen Roach; and his beloved yorkie, Chloe Mae Pruitt.

Sonny was a proud father, husband, and upcoming grandfather. He loved people and had a passion for socializing with others. When he wasn't socializing, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching television. Sonny especially enjoyed watching Yellowstone; and his favorite sports teams, the New York Yankees and the Pittsburgh Steelers.  He had a 23-year long career with the United  States Postal Service and was a proud U.S. Army Veteran.  Sonny was the best husband and father to his wife, Jackie, and his two children, Chase and Cassidy.  More than anything, Sonny loved spending time with his family and cherished every moment that he had with them.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Jacqueline "Jackie" Pruitt of the residence; one son, Chase Pruitt and wife, Ciera of Lynchburg; one daughter, Cassidy Pruitt of Hurt; one grandson on the way, Colt Jameson Pruitt; two sisters, Kim Pruitt Walker of Chatham and Christina Brumfield of Lynchburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 21, 2025 at Summersett Baptist Church by Rev. Jason Andrews.  Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.  Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232.  Masonic Rites by Anderson Lodge 258 A.F. & A.M.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.
