Gretna……….Silas Willard Shelton, Jr., age 81 of Rockford School Road, Gretna died Thursday, May 23, 2013 at his residence.
Born August 31, 1931 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late Silas Willard Shelton, Sr. and Elizabeth (Betty) Simpson Shelton. He was predeceased by three sisters, Gladys Mayhew, Gabriel Eanes, Eloise Myers, and a son-in-law, Gene Moore. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon. Willard was a former school bus driver for Pittsylvania County Schools and was a meat cutter for Love's Supermarket. Mr. Shelton was retired from Sara Lee where he worked as a sewing machine mechanic; following retirement he enjoyed gardening and mowing grass.
He is survived by his wife Colleen Phillips Shelton, of the residence; one son, David Shelton and his wife, Debra of Forest; one daughter, Ellen Nichols and her husband, Rev. Dennis Nichols of Hurt; and one granddaughter, Kelsey Elizabeth Shelton of Forest.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Midway Baptist Church by Rev. Lynn Marstin, Rev. R.G. Rowland, and Rev. Dennis Nichols. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2013 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
