Gretna……Shirley Ann Saunders Ramsey, age 83 of Gretna, died Tuesday, October 24, 2023 after a brief illness.

Born February 1, 1940 in the Renan Community of Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter to the late William Henry Saunders and Annie Rowland Saunders.  She was also predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Billy B. Ramsey; and a sister, Janice S. Davis.

Mrs. Ramsey was an active member of Sycamore Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School Teacher, and participated in many church gatherings, and activities.  She retired from Klopman Mills in Altavista after 35 plus years of service.  Shirley enjoyed antiquing, cooking, collecting Hallmark ornaments, and spending time with family and friends.  Shirley loved her Lord and Savior, and spent her life teaching others to seek him.

She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Gunnell and husband, Johnny of Gretna; one sister, Agnes Davis of Danville; one granddaughter, Kristin Price and husband, Aaron of Roanoke; two great-grandchildren, Lennox Price, and Maddox Price; and a special friend, Brenda Irby of Gretna.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 29, 2023 at Sycamore Baptist Church by Rev. R.G. Rowland, and Rev. Ian Rigney. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 29, 2023 at Sycamore Baptist Church, and other times will be at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth, and Johnny Gunnell. 2089 Burke Road, Gretna, VA 24557.
