Madison Heights…….Shirley (Highpocket) Rowland, age 80, of 237 South Amherst Highway, Madison Heights, died Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Medical Care Center in Lynchburg.
Born August 21, 1930 in Pittsylvania County he was a son of the late Jessie Lee Dodson Rowland and Fannie Elizabeth Keen Rowland. He was predeceased by a daughter, Judy Crews; a wife, Rebecca Rowland; four brothers, Royce Rowland, Charlie Rowland, Garland Rowland, and Arthur Rowland; and three sisters, Adell Reuter, Ella Fitzgerald, and Wilmouth Pickeral. He was a member of Monroe Church of God. Mr. Rowland worked and retired from Burlington Industries after 28 years.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Allen Rowland of the residence; a daughter, Robin D. Farris and her husband, Ricky of Cherokee, NC; a step-son, Linwood Allen and his fiancée, Debbie Creasy of Madison Heights; a grandchild, Jason Adkins; and two step-grandchildren, Mark Allen, and Chris Allen.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 24, 2011 at the Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. R.G. Rowland. Burial will follow in Summersett Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, and other times will be at the residence.
