Hurt……Shirley Archie Rowland, age 86 of Hurt died Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at his residence.
Born April 23, 1931 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of late John Thomas Rowland and Nannie Belle Pickral Rowland. He was predeceased by five brothers, Billy Rowland, Andrew (Buck) Rowland, Berkley Rowland, Thurman Rowland and Alvis Rowland and two sisters, Katie Frances Rowland and Doris Trent. Mr. Rowland was United States Army Veteran of Korea and a former employee of BGF. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising a garden, selling his produce and was a bee keeper.
He is survived by two daughters, Deborah R. Johnson of Concord and Phyllis R. East of Loris, S.C.; his life partner, Lorraine Harris of the residence; one sister, Vera Witcher and husband, Roy Henry of Sandy Level; and five grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 15, 2017 at Gretna Burial Park by Rev. Lynn Marstin.
