Gretna…….Sherry Pope Newby, age 68 of Gretna died Saturday, March 8, 2025 at her residence.

Born July 31, 1956 in North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Murmon "Dave" David Pope and Sadie Marie Smith Pope. She was predeceased by two brothers, Richie Pope and Eddie Pope. Mrs. Newby worked in the cafeteria at Gretna High School for many years. She enjoyed going to the beach and loved animals, especially turtles and chickens. Sherry loved being outdoors and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Randy Newby of the residence; one son, Robbie Newby and wife, Christina of Gretna; three brothers, Larry Pope and wife, Linda of Apex, NC, Terry Pope and wife, Carrie of Sumter, SC, and Donnie Pope and wife, Charlene of Chatham; and two grandchildren, Riley Newby and Alex Newby.

The family will receive friends at the residence.
