Obituary

Gretna……Sam Henry "Pete" Crawley, Jr, age 87 of Gretna died Friday, May 11, 2018 at Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born March 26, 1931 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Sam Henry Crawley, Sr. and Irene Toler Crawley.  He was also predeceased by three brothers, Tommy Crawley, Ray Crawley and John Crawley; and two sisters, Myrtle Scott and Agatha Shelton.

Pete was a member, Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent of Gretna Christian Church.  He was also a former member, Board Chairman and Sunday School Superintendent of West End Church of Christ.  Mr. Crawley was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and member of American Legion Gretna Post 232.  He was a former employee of Central Motor Company, Ross Laboratories and Colbert-Moran Funeral Home. Pete was a Life Member and former Fire Chief of the Gretna Fire Department. He was also a Life Member and former Member of the Year of the Gretna Rescue Squad. Mr. Crawley was an active member of the Masons, Anderson Lodge 258 A.F. and A.M. where he was a 50-year member and past Master. He was also a past Patron of the Gretna Chapter No. 118 Order of the Eastern Star.  He was a former member of the Gretna Town Council, the Ramsey Memorial Medical Board and PTA President. Mr. Crawley was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the Chamber of Commerce in 1961.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Hedrick Crawley of Gretna; one daughter, Melody Cherise Margrave and husband, Richard of Ridgeway; one grandson, Zachary Allen Margrave of Ridgeway; two sisters, Katherine Rowland of Gretna and Ruby Rowland of Florida.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, May 13, 2018 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Lee Ashley Minister. Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 and Masonic Rites by Anderson Lodge 258 A.F. and A.M. will follow in the Gretna Burial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.
