Gretna……….Selma Elizabeth Franklin Campbell, age 94 of Gretna, died Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born May 28, 1928 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Dock Benjamin Franklin and Bessie Simpson Franklin.  She was predeceased by her husband of over 68 years, Thomas Frank "Tommy" Campbell, Sr.; and one sister, Reba Lowe.  Selma was a strong woman of faith and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gretna.  She and Tommy attended regularly, sitting in the same spot, three pews from the front until their health declined.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and Nana to Steph and Matt.  Selma had a tender heart for those less fortunate and loved all animals.  She was an excellent cook and loved sharing her meals with others.

Selma and her twin sister, Thelma, were always known in the community as the Franklin twins, as they were identical.  If you saw one, you would usually see both.  She and Thelma spent their spare time together, just talking, people watching, and playing a mean game of Skip Bo.  Selma loved going on family beach trips, sunning and reading.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas Frank Campbell, Jr. and wife, Raymoth of Beaufort, SC and John Timothy Campbell and wife, Beth of Advance, NC; two sisters, Thelma Talbott and husband, Alvin of Gretna and Sue Kiehm and husband, Leonard of Penhook; three grandchildren, Arley Elizabeth Hunter and husband, Brian, Christopher Adam Campbell and wife, Angela, and Isaac Thomas Campbell; and four great-grandchildren, Rory Hunter, Cam Hunter, C.J. Hunter and Greyson Campbell.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Bob Ballance.  Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.

The family is very thankful for the loving and tender care given to Selma over the last several years by Lori and Traci.  They pampered and spoiled her daily and loved preparing Selma's favorite foods.  They loved Selma with all their hearts.  "Family is not always by blood.  It is by heart."
