Long Island………Samuel "Sammy" Grey Stone, Sr., age 77 of Long Island died Thursday, December 2, 2021.

Born June 26, 1944 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Charlie William Stone and Elise Hunt Stone.  He was predeceased by a brother, C.R. Stone.  Sammy was a member of Straightstone Baptist Church and a school bus driver with Pittsylvania County Schools.  He was a jack of all trades; and loved being outdoors, hunting, gardening, and his farm animals.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel Wallace Stone of the residence; two sons, Sam Stone, Jr. of Lynchburg, and Billy Wallace of Hurt; two brothers, Ray Stone and wife, JoAnn of Long Island, and James Stone of Lynchburg; two sisters, Carrie Gallagher of Lynchburg, and Mildred Mitchell of Lynchburg; two grandchildren, Will Wallace of Lynchburg, and Julia Wallace of Lynchburg; one great-grandchild, Josephine Wallace of Lynchburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 5, 2021 at Straightstone Baptist Church by Pastor Jim Fox.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
