Sallie (Sallie Bean)Towler

Chatham..........Sallie Jane (Sallie Bean) Towler, age 81 of 4869 Toshes Road, Chatham went to her heavenly home after a brief illness Tuesday, April 6, 2010 surrounded by family.
Born December 26, 1928 in Pittsylvania County, she was the tenth child of Winbern Lee Towler and Annie Owen Towler. Welcoming her home are her parents, brothers, Edgar, Bernice, Wilford, James and Jack Towler; sisters, Gladys Hancock and Helen Towler, whom she lovingly and faithfully cared for until her death; and a special brother-in-law, Morris (Whitey) Barbour. A graduate of Climax High School in 1947. She enjoyed working outdoors in her flower garden and helping numerous farmers in tobacco in her younger years. She enjoyed collecting thimbles and salt and pepper shakers from places she was never able to travel. She was well known for her beautiful quilts. Sallie was a member of New Bethel Church of the Brethren where she attended faithfully and worked with the children in VBS as long as she was able. She was the family historian sharing her many memories and stories of her ancestors.
Left to cherish her special and kind heart are sisters, Frances Towler of the home, Cora Brumfield of Brookneal, Eunice Murphy and husband, David of Danville, Mary Ellen Barbour of Gretna and Charlotte Scruggs of Gretna; sisters-in-law, Sallie W. Towler and Aylene Towler; a special niece, Diane Barbour; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2010 at New Bethel Church of the Brethren by Rev. Leo Johnson and Rev. Curtis English. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 7 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
The family suggests memorials be made to the New Bethel Church of the Brethren Cemetery Fund or to your favorite charity.
