Pittsville……Ruth Tallent Welch, age 89 of Pittsville died Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at The Summit in Lynchburg.

Born November 11, 1931 in Macon County, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late John Henry Tallent and Maud Della Jane Patterson Tallent. She was predeceased by her husband, Bobby Benjamin Welch; one son, Virgil Welch; one daughter, Martha Ashe; three brothers, Virgil Tallent, Temple Tallent, and James Carol Tallent; and five sisters, Louise Williamson , Marie Rowland, Roberta Jones, Geneva Roland, and Eva Waters. Mrs. Welch was a member of Pittsville Pentecostal Holiness Church; and she enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, singing and her church.

She is survived by one son, Donald Wayne Welch of Lexington, NC; two daughters, Linda Ashby of Pittsville, and Wanda Holt and husband, Dennis of St. Albans, WV; one sister, Dorothy Jean Roper of Franklin, NC; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; and a special friend and neighbor, Paula Bueard of Pittsville.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 12, 2021 at Pittsville Pentecostal Holiness Church by Pastor Thomas Lee. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
