Ruth Lewis Shelton, age 86 of 210 Center Street, Gretna, died Monday, September 10, 2012 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born November 5, 1925 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late, George Edward Lewis and Birdie Mitchell Lewis. She was predeceased by five brothers, Hubert Lewis, Walter Lewis, James Lewis, Marion Lewis and Willard Lewis; and three sisters, Pauline Smith, Margaret Horne, and Louise Lowe. Ms. Shelton was a member of West End Church, and was a retired employee of Sara Lee. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, and flower gardening.
She is survived by two sons, M. Gary Shelton of Cibolo, TX, and Jeff Shelton of Gretna; one daughter, Sherri S. Kent and her husband, Donald Rowland of Powhatan; two sisters, Eloise Jones of Gretna, and Laura Ingram of Norfolk; two grandchildren, Denise Billett, and Sabrina Bell; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 13, 2012 at Gretna Burial Park by Rev. R.G. Rowland.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
