Gretna…..Rev. Russell Thornton Hunt, age 87 of 219 Leftwich St., Gretna died Thursday, December 29, 2011 at the Virginia Veterans Care Center in Roanoke.
Born October 9, 1924 in Halifax County, he was a son of the late Memory Ryland Hunt and Effie Arthur Hunt. He was predeceased by two brothers, Roy Hunt, and Clarence Hunt. Rev. Hunt was a Baptist minister serving three fields, Chase City, Walton's Mountain, and Farmville. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gretna, and was a member of Woodmen of the World. He was a Army Veteran of World War II; and enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry, and people.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rubye Crews Hunt of the residence; three brothers, Carroll Hunt of Brookneal, Irvin Hunt of Nathalie, and Winfree Hunt of Nathalie; and one sister, Nannie Bell Henderson of Hurt.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Monday, January 2, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Gretna by Rev. Jonathan Hilliard and Rev. Rick Cardwell. Military service by the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard.
A Private Entombment will be held at Altavista Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Sunday, January 1, 2012 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
