Hurt…..Russell Monroe Clay, Sr., age 91 of 560 Clay Drive, Hurt died Sunday, September 25, 2011 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born August 30, 1920 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Carter Monroe Clay and Laura Kelly Clay. He was predeceased by two grandchildren, Glenn Garner "Pete" Clay, Jr., and Robert Anderson Clay; three brothers, Cabel Clay, Stover Clay, and Grover Clay; four sisters, Lucille Shively, Dolly Crews, Mildred Hailey, and Ruby Crews; two half-sisters, Gladys Pouchbay, and Betty Short; a half-brother, Gilmore Reynolds, and a daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Clay. Mr. Clay was a member of Edge Hill Baptist Church, and an Army Veteran of World War II. Mr. Clay was retired from Klopman Mills, and was a farmer. He was a member of DAV Chapter 46, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Dodson Clay of the residence; three sons Russell M. Clay, Jr. and his special friend Shirley Lanier of Hurt, L. Wayne Clay of Hurt, and Glenn Garner Clay and his wife, Earleen of Long Island; and two grandchildren, Russell Clay III and his special friend Ann Richardson, and Michelle Clay.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Edge Hill Baptist Church by Rev. Chris Brooks. Burial with Military Honors by the Virginia National Guard, Honor Guard will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
