Gretna……..Ruby Mayhew Pickral, age 93, of Gretna went to be with her Lord on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Gretna Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born March 7, 1928 in Pittsylvania County, she was the second of seven children to the late George Dewey Mayhew, Sr. and Alice McGhee Mayhew. She was predeceased by her husband, Marvin C. Pickral; and three brothers, George D. Mayhew, Jr., Donald R. Mayhew, and Darrell Mayhew.

Ruby was a member of Zion United Methodist Church and a former member of Greenfield Baptist Church.  She was a faithful member of both, serving as a member of many lady's organizations, including librarian, and leader of the MYF, and sang in both church choirs.  She loved her flowers, gardening, knitting, and thought the "sun rose and set" with her grandson and great-grandchildren.  For thirty-three years she transported students to school and back home for Pittsylvania County Schools.  She was very proud to be a school bus driver.

She is survived by one son, Ronnie D. Pickral and wife, Betty; one grandson, Jonathan D. Pickral and wife, Stacie; two great-grandchildren, Jonathan C. Pickral, and Eleanor E. Pickral; one sister, Marjorie M. Shelton; two brothers, Forest B. Mayhew, and Tommy D. Mayhew; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. R.G. Rowland and Rev. Douglas Gunsalus. Burial will follow in Greenfield Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of her son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Betty Pickral.
