Ruby Scruggs Layne

Altavista…..Ruby Scruggs Layne, age 86 of Altavista died Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg.
Born September 18, 1925 in Rowan County, North Carolina. She was a daughter of the late Edward Coleman Scruggs and Bertha Fielder Scruggs. She was predeceased by her husband, Carter Glass Layne; five brothers Edward Scruggs, Clarence Scruggs, Malcolm Scruggs , Marvin Scruggs, and Fairfax Scruggs; and four sisters Irene Scruggs, Virginia Walker, Clara Harper, and Ruth Davis. Mrs. Layne was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church, member of the Gretna Chapter #118 Order of The Eastern Star, Hurt Friendship Club, and the Renan Home Demonstration Club.
She is survived by one son; Gerald Carter Layne and wife Lora of Long Island; one daughter, Linda Henderson and husband Larry of Burlington, N.C.; one brother, Preston Scruggs of Kenosha, Wisconsin; one sister, Naomi Rice of Salisbury, N.C. three grandchildren, Michael Henderson, Justine Layne and Carter Thomas Layne.
Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2012 at New Prospect Baptist Church by Rev. Jim Manuel. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times be at the residence of her son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Lora Layne, 6354 Covered Bridge Road, Gladys.
