Gretna……….Ruby Bryant Cocke, age 103 of Gretna died Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Roman Eagle Memorial Home in Danville.
Born November 9, 1907 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Robert Bryant and Rose Peters Bryant. She was predeceased by her husband, Emmett Winbern Cocke, Sr.; a son, Rev. Emmett Winbern Cocke, Jr.; a daughter, Jeanette Moon; a brother, Lloyd Bryant; and a sister, Hilda Towler. Mrs. Cocke was a member of Greenbay Christian Church, and was a home maker. She was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star #118, and she enjoyed raising roses.
She is survived by a son, Dr. Robert Wilford Cocke and his wife, Audrey of Danville; a daughter, Juanita Minor and her husband Willie of Elkton, MD; two sisters, Mary Toler of Chatham, and Ethel Hedrick of Rocky Mount; 16 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 P.M. Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Lee Ashley, Minster, and Ted Clifton, Minister. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:15 P.M. Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. R. Wilford and Audrey Cocke, 2071 Woodlake Drive, Danville.
