Roy J. Haymore Jr., 95, departed this life for Heaven on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at Wyndhurst Health and Rehab, Lynchburg.

Born in the Whittles community of Pittsylvania County on January 31, 1931, he was the son of the late Lula Hodnett Haymore and Roy Haymore Sr. and was the eldest of three sons.

Roy was married to the love of his life Peggy (Hines) Barrett Haymore for over 71 years. The couple made their home in the Town of Hurt.

He is also survived by his only child, a daughter, Kathy Haymore-Keesee and son-in-law Philip of Hurt, two grandsons, Lenny Keesee and wife Joanie of Danville and Ashe Keesee and wife Desiree' of Lynchburg, as well as great grandchildren Layla, Luke and Leo Keesee of Danville.

Other survivors include brother-in-law Charles Martin Jr. and sisters-in-law Mary Martha Crim and Rosalie Schaeffer, all of Martinsburg, West Virginia, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a proud Veteran of the US Army during the Korean Conflict and served as  Sergeant 1st class on the front line of Porkchop Hill. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart for being wounded in action.

Roy was retired from Burlington Industries (Klopman Mills) where he worked for almost 40 years in the Finishing Department.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and known to all his friends as an excellent  marksman. He adored his family, especially his grandsons and cherished his great-grandchildren.  Roy loved nature and had a deep appreciation for all of God's creations.

He was a devout member of Hurt United Methodist Church where he served as a former trustee, usher and a member of the United Methodist Men.

Funeral services will be held at Colbert Moran Chapel on Monday, August 24, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Betty Marshall officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery, Hurt.
