Hurt………Roy Henry Bennett, age 90 of Hurt died Friday, June 2, 2017 at the Destiny Hospice House in Lynchburg.
Born June 8, 1926 in Pittsylvania County he was a son of the late Walter Monroe Bennett and Susie Shelton Bennett. He was predeceased by his wife, Janie Doris Bailess Bennett; three brothers, his twin, Ray Bennett, Lionel Bennett and Guy Bennett; and a sister, Kathleen Bruce. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church, a retired employee of Piedmont Manufacturing and a U.S. Army Veteran. Roy enjoyed playing golf, gardening and fishing.
He is survived by his son, Mike Bennett of Hurt; two grandchildren, Jamie Bennett and wife, Susan and Justin Bennett and wife, Melinda; and five great-grandchildren, Katelyn Bennett, Tristan Bennett, Morgan Roach, Autumn Roach and Emily Gibson.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 5, 2017 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Pastor Matthew Speck. Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will follow in Altavista Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 5, 2017 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
