Gretna……….Roy Francis "Dickie" Alfred, age 86 of Gretna, died Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Lynchburg General Hospital after a brief illness.

Born June 12, 1932 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Roy Augustine Alfred and Frances McDaniel Alfred. He was also predeceased by his wife, Jean Keen Alfred; a son, Jimmy Alfred; a brother, Danny Alfred and two sisters, Barbara Schweitzer and Margaret Wright. Mr. Alfred was a member of Rustburg United Methodist Church and a former member of the Rustburg Lions Club. Roy was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War having served as a member of the 49 ^th Fighter-Bomber Wing and was a former member of VFW Post 16.  Mr. Alfred worked for GE-Ericsson, the Lane Company and Schrader-Bridgeport.  He was instrumental in helping get youth sports started in Rustburg; and he enjoyed music, dancing, wood working, antiquing, gardening and golf.

He is survived by two daughters, Denise Moran and husband, Kenny of Gretna and Crystal Henderson and husband, Tim of Lynchburg; a special friend, Shirley Nichols of Altavista; one sister, Sylvia A. Miller of Altavista; five grandchildren, Willie Calohan and wife, Kristen, Jessica Eubank and husband, Cody, Daniel Alfred, Danielle English and husband, Kevin and Alexis McQuaid; and six great-grandchildren, William Calohan V, Brandon Eubank, Hannah Eubank, Karson English, Abigail Eubank and Riley English.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 14, 2018 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Pastor Mack Almond.  Military Honors will be conducted by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232.  Burial will follow at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church Cemetery in Huddleston.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.
