Gretna…….Roney Thomas Adkins, age 77 of Gretna died Sunday, February 26, 2023 at his residence.

Born August 4, 1945 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Oscar Edmond Adkins and Ethel Towler Adkins.  He was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn Neal Adkins; two brothers, Ray Adkins and Roy Douglas Adkins; and three sisters, Virginia Adkins, Hilda Smith and Edna Tuck.  Mr. Adkins was a U.S. Army Veteran and retired from VDOT.  He enjoyed scratching lottery tickets, working in the garden and he loved watching Gunsmoke on television.

He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews including a special niece and caregiver, Joan Barbour of Sandy Level; a brother-in-law, Rex Neal and wife, Pat of Gretna; and a special friend, Francis Falls of Gretna.

Graveside services with military honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at Wagner Family Cemetery by Rev. R.G. Rowland.
