Altavista………Robert Albert Mitchell, Sr., age 87 of Altavista died Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Runk & Pratt in Forest.

Born June 20, 1930 in Bedford County, he was a son of the late Earnest Luck Mitchell and Daisy Jane Martin Mitchell. He was predeceased by his wife, Estelle Shields Mitchell; five sisters, Lizzie Perdue, Fannie Meeks, Gladys Mitchell, Nellie Peggans and Ruby Mitchell; and four brothers, Johnnie Mitchell, Gilbert Mitchell, Henry Mitchell and Sammy Mitchell.  Mr. Mitchell was a retired supervisor for BGF.  He was also owner/contractor of Mitchell Construction and enjoyed dancing, boating, hunting and blue grass music.

He is survived by one son, Robert Albert Mitchell, Jr. and wife, Yvonne of Altavista; one daughter, Rebecca Kidd and husband, Mike of Altavista; one brother, Lewis Mitchell of Moneta; one sister, Lena Woody of Michigan; five grandchildren, John Kidd, Heather Cofflin, Stephanie Koren, Brook Austin and Chris Mitchell; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at a later date.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Hospice of your choice or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
